This Privacy Policy describes how CheckTheGap (check.stemthegapindia.com), a project of STEMTheGap at IIT Delhi, handles information in connection with the dashboard.

Website Visitors

What we collect

CheckTheGap does not require registration or login. We do not use third-party analytics, advertising trackers, or behavioural profiling tools of any kind. Standard web server logs may automatically record your IP address, browser type, referring URL, and the pages you visit. This information is used solely for diagnosing technical issues and maintaining the service. It is not used to identify individuals and is not shared with third parties. If you contact us at iitdcoimpact@gmail.com, we receive your email address and the content of your message. We use this only to respond to your enquiry.

Cookies

The site may set a minimal session cookie for technical reasons. We do not set advertising, or persistent profiling cookies. We do not sell, rent, or share visitor information with any third party, and we do not build profiles of individual visitors.

Data in the Dashboard

The dashboard displays faculty gender representation statistics derived from VIDWAN, India's national researcher profile database maintained by INFLIBNET under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. VIDWAN profiles are publicly accessible without login or registration.

We scraped 224,166 public VIDWAN profiles in October 2025. The data displayed in the dashboard reflects the state of VIDWAN at that time. No information is shown that is not already publicly available on VIDWAN itself. We do not publish or redistribute raw individual profile data.

The dashboard is not a census of Indian academia. Coverage varies by institution, and the figures shown reflect VIDWAN-registered faculty at the time of the October 2025 scrape, not all faculty at any given institution. See the documentation for a full description of limitations.

As a faculty member in the database to update your information: The dashboard reflects VIDWAN data as of October 2025. Any changes you make to your VIDWAN profile will be reflected in the next scheduled data update. Contact VIDWAN at vidwan@inflibnet.ac.in to update your profile. We do not remove individual records from the dashboard. The data is derived from a public government source; removal from our dashboard would not remove the information from VIDWAN itself, which remains the canonical source. Requests to be removed from VIDWAN should be directed to VIDWAN.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the site's features or applicable law change. The date of the most recent revision is shown at the top of this page. We will note material changes on the site.
