CheckTheGap (check.stemthegapindia.com) is a public data dashboard operated by STEMTheGap, a research initiative at IIT Delhi. The dashboard publishes faculty gender representation statistics for Indian universities and research institutions, drawn from VIDWAN, India's national researcher profile database maintained by INFLIBNET under the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

These Terms govern your access to and use of the CheckTheGap website and dashboard.

By accessing or using CheckTheGap, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the site.

Permitted Uses

CheckTheGap is a public interest research resource. You may use the dashboard and its content for:

  • Academic research and analysis
  • Journalism and public interest reporting
  • Policy analysis and advocacy
  • Educational and teaching purposes
  • Citation in publications, reports, and presentations

When reproducing charts, statistics, or analysis drawn from this site, you must attribute CheckTheGap. See the citation format on the documentation page.

Prohibited Uses

You may not use CheckTheGap to:

  • Build or contribute to commercial products or paid services without prior written permission from STEMTheGap
  • Redistribute or republish the underlying dataset as a standalone data product
  • Present statistics from CheckTheGap as a census or complete accounting of faculty demographics at any institution without disclosing the documented limitations
  • Target, profile, or make consequential decisions about individual faculty members based on information accessed through this site
  • Interfere with or disrupt the operation of the site or its infrastructure

The CheckTheGap dashboard, visualisations, analytical methodology, and blog posts are the intellectual property of STEMTheGap / IIT Delhi. The underlying faculty data is sourced from VIDWAN (INFLIBNET, Ministry of Education, Government of India) and belongs to its respective owners.

You may reproduce charts and statistics from this site for non-commercial purposes with attribution to CheckTheGap. You may not reproduce or adapt the dashboard's design, code, or methodology for commercial purposes without prior written permission from STEMTheGap.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, STEMTheGap, IIT Delhi, and their respective members, employees, and contributors shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the CheckTheGap dashboard or the data it contains; including but not limited to damages arising from reliance on inaccurate or incomplete data.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time as the site evolves or applicable law changes. The date of the most recent revision is shown at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.

These Terms of Service are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India.
